BUCKLEY AFB, Colo. --
With the holiday weekend that is upon us, I'd like to take a moment to remember all of our fellow service members who have given their lives for our country. Each of you, by joining our Nation's military service, has volunteered to give your life to defend our home and our freedom, if and when required. Hundreds of thousands of men and women have made that ultimate sacrifice over the years, and we remember and honor them this weekend.
I hope that you will all take some time on Memorial Day to reflect on what it means to give the ultimate sacrifice. Some of you have lost family members, friends, and teammates to the call of duty. We remember the Gold Star Families of Colorado, who have lost a spouse, parent, child or sibling to combat. It's not just the service member who makes the sacrifice, and we need to remember the family and friends who have suffered loss for the sake of our great nation.
On a separate note, thank you to everyone for your tireless efforts to make this last deployment such a huge success. As usual, I have been impressed by your professionalism and commitment to the mission from start to (almost) finish. We still have a few Airmen to bring home and I am confident that you will see this mission through to completion with diligence. You impressed not only me, but the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan AB as well. I can't tell you how proud I am of your superior performance. You are truly a top-notch team.
Enjoy your weekend and I'm looking forward to a great summer.
