BUCKLEY AFB, Colo. -- 140th Wingmen,
As we approach another holiday season together, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how much we have to be thankful for. We are so lucky to live in a nation where we are free to celebrate whatever holidays we please. The freedoms we enjoy would not be possible without men and women like you who have willingly volunteered to serve our country.
The hard work and sacrifices you make to support our mission are critical to ensuring we can continue to celebrate Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc. this year and for years to come. Many of you even sacrifice your own holiday celebrations to ensure that others can safely and confidently enjoy theirs. A special thank you to those of you who will be here on alert, manning our critical 24/7 shifts, or deployed during the upcoming holidays.
Also, please remember that while the holidays may be some of the most joyful times, they may also be some of the most lonely times for some of our Wingmen. Please be mindful and aware of each other and if you have any concerns about a friend or co-worker, please don't ignore it. We have several resources available to help, including the Director of Psychological Health (303-358-9728), the Chaplain team (720-847-9955), and the Airman and Family Readiness Program (720-847-9116). And as usual, please have a plan before you drink and if you find yourself without a safe way home, call Airmen Against Drunk Driving (720-847-RIDE (7433)) or the Command Post (720-847-9955) and they will help you. Don't hesitate to use these resources. I want this to be a great time for all of you and these folks can help ensure that it is.
Secondly, with winter months ahead, I'd like to remind you to use common sense and caution when driving in winter weather conditions. We heed the 460th Space Wing's guidance on base delays and closures (720-847-SNOW), but if you ever feel that you can't make it to base safely, don't try. Your supervisor will work out an alternative for you. Your safety is paramount.
I continue to be proud of each one of you for helping this Wing meet every challenge set ahead of us. Please enjoy the special holiday meal today, well-prepared for you by our FSS team and Happy Thanksgiving!
