Buckley implements DBIDS system Published March 2, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Nigel R. Sims 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- All common access card holders should register their cards with the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) before March 1, in order to continue to gain entry to the base. DBIDS is a Department of Defense owned and operated system used as a force protection program to identify personnel attempting access at DoD installations using barcode and biometric identification. DBIDS uses all current DoD cards for access. Cards without bar codes must be replaced prior to registration. "The additional security measure will be implemented at all gates starting in December," said Patricia Gilmore, 460th Security Forces Squadron, DBIDS Provost Marshall. DBIDS will be gradually integrated into day-to-day operations, but will eventually become mandatory for base access. Once mandatory, cardholders that are not registered will be redirected to the visitors center for registration. This system is going to verify whether people are registered in DBIDS, or if their common access card has been reported lost or stolen, said Gilmore. "It has also proven helpful if a Red Cross notification comes up in the system. It makes easier to contact and locate the person faster," said Gilmore There are a great deal of positive outcomes expected to come from using DBIDS, said Gilmore. "Using DBIDS will help people get on and off this installation a little bit faster once the guards get accustomed to using the equipment," said Gilmore. Human error, such as illegal entry, is also another important factor that will decrease, said Gilmore. Guards will receive visual and audible crosscheck (color photo, and standard personal info) to verify your identity. "DBIDS was implemented in order to increase security at all Air Force installations," said Gilmore. It is mandatory that all active duty, civilians, retirees and dependants register their ID cards.
