Carter family announces planeside honors, funeral services

The family of Colorado Army National Guardsman would like to announce the memorial services for their beloved Soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan Aug. 6.

Planeside honors are scheduled to take place at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo., tomorrow, Aug. 17, at approximately 1:10 p.m.

Chief Warrant Officer David R. Carter's remains will be returning to Building 909, near the Army Aviation Support Facility where he performed his duties prior to his Afghan deployment.

As his casket is driven off the base, service members assigned to BAFB are expected to line the streets of in order to pay their last respects to this invaluable member of Team Buckley.

Carter's memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Easter Hills Community Church in Aurora, Colo.

Following the memorial service, interment is scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins.

Carter is one of 30 American servicemembers who died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is scheduled to attend all ceremonies.

The Carter family will not grant media interviews during any of these events, and have asked not to be filmed.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy that contributions be made to a college fund established for Kyle and Kaitlen in memory of their father. Contributions can be made at any 1ST Bank location in the name of "Dave Carter Memorial Fund."

Media wishing to attend the planeside honors must arrive at the back gate of BAFB on Mississippi Avenue just east of Tower Road no later than 12:30 p.m.
Aug 17. Media must present drivers' licenses, proof of insurance and media credentials in order to access the base. Media will be escorted to and from the planeside honors site and will be asked to remain in a designated area during the service.

Media wishing to attend the memorial service must arrive at Eastern Hills Community Church at 25511 E. Smoky Hill Rd., Aurora, Colo., 80016, no later than 9:30 a.m. Aug. 19.
