Colonel KURT D. TONGREN

Colonel Tongren is the Vice Wing Commander of the 140th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard, Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado.  Col. Tongren assists with the effective management of over 1600 personnel supporting an F-16C+ fighter mission (Air Combat Command), a unique Mobile Ground System missile warning mission (Air Force Space Command), and a Civil Engineering mission (Pacific Air Forces).  He assures adequate training of assigned military personnel and high quality aircraft maintenance through timely phased assessments.  In addition, Colonel Tongren is responsible for the successful completion of all wing inspections.  He also establishes base policies to assure effective personnel, equipment, funding, supply, procurement and facility management.
 
Colonel Tongren began his military career by enlisting in the Colorado Air National Guard as a F-16C Crew Chief.  He received his commission after attending the Academy of Military Science for the Kansas Air National Guard.  He served as a B-1B Aircraft Commander before transitioning to the F-16C with the New York and South Dakota ANG.  In 2011, Colonel Tongren returned to the Colorado Air National Guard as a Traditional Guardsman.  His civilian career as a United Airlines pilot has him flying the Airbus 320.  He is a command pilot with more than 3100 hours in the B-1B and F-16C, having flown over 350 combat hours in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE and ENDURING FREEDOM.
