LIEUTENANT COLONEL AMANDA K. HILL

Lieutenant Colonel Amanda K. Hill is the commander of the 140th Medical Group, 140th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado. She provides command, leadership, and direction to 123 full-time and traditional military and civilian medical personnel and is responsible for the medical readiness of over 1500 Airmen. 

Lt Col Hill entered the Air Force upon graduation from the University of Northern Colorado in August 2004 and earned her commission through Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment 90.  She entered active duty working as an additional duty lieutenant at Detachment 90, Colorado State University, while waiting to enter the Nurse Transition Program at Eglin Air Force Base. Her follow-on assignment was at Lackland Air Force Base where she was a clinical nurse on a surgical-trauma floor at Wilford Hall Medical Center. She was deployed September 2006 to January 2007 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, to Balad Air Base, Iraq where she worked in the intensive care ward.  Upon return she was transferred to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at WHMC where she became an element leader. She was again deployed from May 2008 to September 2008 in support of OIF to Balad Air Base, Iraq to the emergency department. Upon her return, she relocated in October 2008 to the 460th Medical Group, Buckley Air Force Base as an ambulatory care nurse and became the infection prevention officer. She was awarded the Air Force Medical Service Ambulatory Care Nurse of the Year award in 2007 and went on to become the family practice flight commander before separating from active duty in February 2012.

Lt Col Hill transitioned to the Colorado Air National Guard, 140th Medical Group in February 2012 as a clinical nurse while simultaneously entering into graduate school to become a nurse practitioner. She served in the roles of chief nurse, provider, Physical Health Assessment flight commander and medical support services squadron commander. She has supported manning assists, to include the 460 MDG, Buckley AFB, Colorado and 52 MDG, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany; humanitarian missions to include Hurricane Harvey, Houston, Texas, Tropic Care, Maui, Hawaii and commanded the 400+ multi-service Greater Chenango Cares/Healthy Cortland Innovative Readiness Training in upstate New York. Most recently she was awarded the 2019 AFMS Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year and will assume the position of commander for the 140 MDG.
