Runway Makeover

Construction crews are laying a portion of the north end of the runway at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. This is but one piece of a larger project that the 140th Wing, Colorado National Guard, is performing during runway construction on its main runway on Buckley AFB. Each end of the runway is receiving significant and much needed runway repairs. This multi-million dollar project is helping to finally address many issues with the concrete and aircraft arresting systems, while also putting many construction employees in the area to work. Colorado National Guard Public Affairs personnel Technical Sgt. Byron K. Coulter (Left) and Army Staff Sgt. Jessica Geffre interview LtCol Michael Turley with the 1457 Engineer Battalion, Utah National Guard about the construction project along Colorado Route 36. This stretch of highway is mainly being worked on by National Guard members, in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Transportation. National guard units from Colorado, Utah, Kansas and Montana participate in reconstruction the Colorado State Route 36 after recent floods devastate the area. Army and Air National Guard units provide civil engineer and Red Horse units to repair the roads and provide a 24-foot wide passable road before December 1st, 2013.
