Men and Women of the 140th,

Last Friday evening, I had the pleasure of attending the Guardian Challenge Award Ceremony at Peterson AFB. What is Guardian Challenge? It is a biannual Air Force Space Command (AFSP) competition amongst all the AFSPC Wings, analogous to the ACC Gunsmoke competitions of yesteryear. It was a 2 week competition amongst the various different missions that AFSPC oversees, with awards going to the differing specialties the Wings perform. The 460th Space Wing and Team Buckley competed with several other Wings for the Aldrige Trophy, recognizing the Best Overall Operations Wing in the Air Force. The events included both Operations and Security Forces competitions.

Ladies and Gentlemen...Team Buckley won!

Now, as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story." We are extremely proud of all who competed and appreciate Col Clint Crosier along with his 460th Wing's organization of Team Buckley. But I need you to know our Wing's involvement. Several months ago, a local competition was hosted by the 460th to identify the members that would compete and represent Team Buckley. In the Operations category, the two-person team selected was from our very own 137th SWS. In the Security Forces category, 3 of the 5 members selected were again from our 137th. In addition, the "Coaches" of both Ops and SFs were 137th members. Thus of the 9 total competitors and coaches in the Guardian Challenge this year, 7 of them were from the 137th SWS. So without beating our chests too obviously, I am proud to say that Team Buckley was "well represented" by our Colorado Air National Guard, and again they won the whole darn thing!

I would like to congratulate from Ops, Maj Jarrod Moseley, Capt Stephanie Myers, and Coach MSgt Phil Whitley and from Security Forces, SSgts Randall Fischer, Mario Hernandez, and A1C Devin Casteel along with Coach TSgt Travis Silvers.

We are extremely proud of you all and proud of how you represented the best of the Air National Guard, the COANG, the 140th, and Team Buckley. Congratulations to you all!

Respectfully,

Brig Gen Eyre
